Bhool Chuk Maaf Skips Theatres PVR Inox Sends Legal Notice :

The romantic comedy “Bhool Chuk Maaf,” featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, was previously scheduled for a theatrical release on May 9, 2025. But the production house cancelled its release in the theatres in view of escalating tension between India and Pakistan. Maddock Films officially confirmed that the film would premiere on Amazon Prime on 16 May 2025. This only did not not go down well with PVR Inox, a leading cinema chain sent a legal notice ot Maddock Films. PVR announced a loss of Rs 60 crore on account of the cancellation, on promotional expenditures.

"The producers are under no obligation to justify their reasons to anyone, and yet they're being made to feel vilified for not doing so. Cinemas in Jodhpur and Punjab are shut, cinemas in Delhi not running night shows. That the IPL has also now been called off is why it made sense to defer ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’. The piracy risk, with digital copies already being distributed around the world, is what led to the aggressive switch to a streaming release,” the person said. PVR Inox claimed compensation saying it incurred expenditure in giving the trailers prime-time slots at various screens, while also spending on posters, standees, social media advertising and to plan operations.

“There were no exclusive noticing … The notice was not given exclusive,” said the source." The last-minute shutdown after ticket sales had already begun led to programming challenges. The ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ team mentioned that they feared for the safety and security of the audiences as the tussle continues. They also felt it wouldn’t be right to have a comedy release when the country is going through a national crisis;;"They also took into account the fact that even the IPL stands postponed and the cinemas in North India have been shut."

The court hearing was conducted at the Mumbai at 3 pm on Friday and all the parties were present. A verdict is expected on Monday. It's advertiser-insider also asks: "PVR claims to have spent Rs 60 crore on the film and `Bhool Chuk Maaf' is not a bigh budget film. Producers usually spend not more than ₹25 crore on marketing. The source added, “The demand from PVR is completely unjustified as it means we'll have had to earn Rs 350 crore in India.” Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, a rep from PVR Inox said, “It's disheartening to know that a project was promoted so much and yet it was pulled out without any formal intimation. As one of the leading film platform in India, we support and promote films and in good faith, we invest heavily and expect our partners to uphold professional standards. The movie was released digitally because of bad advance bookings."
