Farhan Akhtar in Advanced Talks to Play RD Burman in Neeraj Pandey’s Biopic :

Having given power-packed performances in films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and then the sports drama Toofaan, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is possibly gearing up for another challenging character. According to reports from the industry, he is in talks with filmmaker Neeraj Pandey for an upcoming biographical film on one of India's legendary and world renowned music composer RD Burman who was affectionately referred to as Pancham da. Meanwhile, insiders close to the project say that the film is being made as an epic tribute to one of India's most iconic and well-known musicians. Neeraj Pandey has been working on the script for a while, and the project is said to be developing nicely.

Farhan Akhtar, who is said to be keen on portraying RD Burman onscreen, is believed to finally be contending the part. Should the film go into production as planned, the actor is expected to undergo extensive preparation in order to faithfully portray the personality, mannerisms and musical legacy of the legendary composer. The makers have also acquired the rights to many of RD Burman's greatest hits, which are likely to be heavily featured in the narrative. It was also reported that the production hopes to depict an authentic, emotional representation of the musician's life and work. The process of music sessions is already underway while attempts are made to retain the spirit of the source material and merge it with film. The aim is to pay tribute to the unparalleled legacy that RD Burman left behind in Indian cinema and music. The long talked about biopic plans to commence shooting at the finish of 2026. Producer Kamal Jain - known for backing late Rajesh Khanna's biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and popular recent historical release, Manikarnika has co-produced in the film directed by Neeraj Pandey.
