Govinda Kept Bachchan and Rajinikanth Waiting 3 Days on Hum :
Ensemble casts in Bollywood films are not common. Directors have often spoke out about the challenges that come with handling multiple divas in one film, from scheduling issues to bitchy behaviour. Here, we will talk about one such actor who made big names, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth wait for almost three days to shoot for a scene in a multi-starrer film. It is well-known that while Bachchan and Rajinikanth have shared screen in films like “Andha Kanoon” and “Geraftaar”, the incident took place when they were filming “Hum” in 1991. The film was directed by Mukul Anand and had an ensemble cast of Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Govinda and Kader Khan.
In a recent chat with Filmymantra Media, the actor Vijay Patkar and who was also a part of the film shared that Amitabh and Rajinikanth waited for 72 hours to shoot a scene as Govinda didn’t show up.\ Patkar shared, "Anand sir wanted to construct a sunrise shot with the whole family looking forward to [the] sunrise, but Govinda didn’t come for three days." Other stars or not, the filming could go no further. Govinda came on the 4th day, after the Director's request. Patkar said that when both Bachchan and Rajinikanth are thorough professionals, remaining quiet without murmuring.
Patkar also narrated an incident of Bachchan’s discipline from the shooting of “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” (1998). He recounted how Bachchan used to himself come driving to Govinda's place, honk and bring him to the set. “An actor of that calibre.. that dedication is what is keeping (Bachchan) working even today,” Patkar told PTI. Admitting that it was producers who faced a monetary loss on account of Govinda's delay, Patkar lauded the actor's onscreen skills. But, he added that the only thing that ultimately worked against Govinda was his tardiness on set, which led to his career's downfall. Released in 1998, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” was a commercial hit and is still known for the comedy that flowed with Bachchan and Govinda.
