Vivek Agnihotri Opens Up on Anurag Kashyap Goal Set :

“My first encounter with them was when I worked with them on ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ and then with Vikram on ‘Shanghai’ and much later on an ‘unreleased’ film,” said Vivek Agnihotri, director of “The Kashmir Files” and “The Tashkent Files”. Agnihotri stated during an interview with Digital Commentary that Kashyap's condition as an alcoholic during that period made shooting the film harder. He also mentioned differences in opinion towards which way the movie should be taken, and suggested relations were strained with lead actor John Abraham. Since then, Agnihotri says he has disassociated himself from the Bollywood mainstream.

When questioned about his equation with Kashyap, whose political beliefs are perceived to be opposed to his, Agnihotri replied making a comment about Kashyap's mental status. "Goal: The Dream Begins"; he added:"We collaborated on Goal. The script for the film was being penned by Kashyap. The original cast was Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra, however, Saif had to leave the movie due to private reasons. Then we cast John and Bipasha. Kashyap was on a drinking spree then, so he was an unreliable one. He hired a talented man called Vikram Motwane, saying, “He’s my new guy, he’ll do the work. " Agnihotri continued, “Kashyap had a little bit took a step back so Motwane took little bit of charge.” But the tale of the film was different than how Agnihotri imagined it which led to friction between the two.

The production house stepped in but Kashyap's behaviour became more and more difficult to handle because he also drank. However, Agnihotri claims that they still shake hands when they bump into each other and adds that although Kashyap has made "some comments" about him on social media, he doesn't like to stoop to that level. Speaking to Mid-Day in an earlier interview, Motwane had spoken about working with Agnihotri. He thought that the initial story he shares writing credits with Kashyap on one of his greatest. Motwane said UTV was currently making the movie on Agnihotri's idea for a ''football-related'' story. Kashyap was the one who suggested Motwane to write the film since he was a football enthusiast. Motwane was happy with the original script, but agreed the eventual film was not what they first envisioned. To it he attributed the exigencies of the time, explaining: “You got paid for work.” Kashyap recently talked of overcoming his battle with drink in the past. At an event at the Annapurna College of Film and Media, he said, “I took to alcohol due to work pressures. I went to rehab and in rehab I found new ways to write things.”
