The final rites off legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja leads to an avalanche of condolences from the film fraternity, politicians and fans. Castro-Borja The famous director will be given a state funeral following his recent death, the Tamil Nadu government said — in its promise to inter him at his farmhouse situated between Devadhanapatti and Vathalagundu in Theni district.
Hours after the government took the decision, Theni District Collector R. Vaidyanathan instructed the officials to prepare for his state funeral. The burial spot had already been inspected by revenue and local administration officials, even as authorities are putting in place elaborate security and crowd control arrangements for what they expect will be massive public gatherings led by celebrities, political leaders or admirers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Bharathiraja, deeming him as a trendsetting filmmaker who changed the fabric of Tamil cinema with his authentic depictions of rural life and culture. A number of Bollywood personalities have paid tribute to the venerable actor since his demise.

When Janani Iswariya went to bid final farewell to her father, she broke down after arriving with children. Family members and acquaintances also grieved around the 84-year-old's body in emotional scenes.
Actor Ramya Pandian also remembered and wrote that her last interaction with Bharathiraja was a personal loss. On the other hand, actress Suhasini Maniratnam visited the family in Theni and consoled Bharathiraja's wife. Talking to reporters she said, "Bharathiraja was the filmmaker who completely transformed and created a visual language and narrative structure in Tamil cinema.
Dhanush paid his last respects to the iconic filmmaker and was very emotional at the ceremony. Music composer and actor GV Prakash Kumar said, "Bharathiraja sir was a legendary creator who always supported new talents and his crucial role in the making of Tamil cinema.
Lyricist Vairamuthu, in an emotional post, remembered a friend and associate. Director Mysskin, who visited to pay respects at the residence broke down when recalling Bharathiraja as a giant of filmmaker whose legacy will live on well into future generations.
