STR Gets Emotional at Thug Life Audio Launch with Kamal :

STR (Silambarasan TR) who graced the grand audio launch event of 'Thug Life' at Sairam College, Chennai, won everyone over including the press with his honest speech. He passionately and grabbing the opportunity to promote the most important moments of his life and his appreciation of all the key people behind the movie. At the audio conclave, the film, which will be released on June 5, was cheered as a paean to movies, friendship and salvation.

Silambarasan said he learnt a lot from director Mani Ratnam and said the latter's influence on him was immense. "After I saw 'Anjali,' I cried to think why Mani sir didn't take me in the film. I never thought he’d choose someone like me,” he confessed. Forty years later, when he faced a slump when no director approached him for work, Mani Ratnam offered him a movie. "I believed it to be a prank call when I got a call from his office. He confirmed it was. I attached more value to that trust,” STR revealed on his comeback in ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’. He further revealed that Mani Ratnam had also approached him for ‘Ponniyin Selvan,’ but it didn't materialize due to prior commitments.

The actor also has some warm words regarding A.R. Rahman’s influence on his musical journey. He reminicised about the difficult time he was going through during the ‘Beep Song’ controversy and how Rahman had his back through the emotional Thalli Pogathey. “Rahman sir opened the door when I was an underdog. He was the one who let me sing in a film that my father produced. I have been pestering him since my childhood—and I still carry on doing it! he said with a grin, gratefully acknowledging the composer’s enduring support over the years.

Describing Thug Life as a very special project, STR said it was like a dream come true to work with Kamal Haasan. He said that he was inspired by the humbleness of Kamal Haasan as he still feels that he is a student of cinema. The whole team – including Mani Ratnam, AR Rahman, Trisha and Abhirami — were present, making the starry night, an emotional night and with a lot of reasons to throw the party, as the film gears up for its release on June 5.
