Kerala (June 7): Fans and film fraternity have mourned the death of actor-comedian Salim Kumar, a national award winner following illness. Shock has been expressed all over the country including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other notable figures. But now you also have an unfortunate one at the actor's funeral. Many others reportedly found themselves a bit too star struck as the heavy presence of paparazzi and media made it difficult for family members to do the final rites in peace. Social media exploded with videos of the supposedly accidental incident.

Chandu Salim Kumar, actor son of Salim Kumar said on his Facebook post: Focus once treated like home visit on family death. Chandu asked members of the media to move back while he bid farewell and have space for his family perform last rites. Even after what felt like the hundredth announcement asking people to stop taking pictures, recording video, and going on live stream many still did so. His funeral took place at his house in North Paravur, Ernakulam district, attended by family members and close friends as well as figures from the films world and Kerala's politics. But the large number of media people made it hard to go on with yet another reading.

Witnesses said Chandu was polite in initially asking the photographers to stand aside. He eventually lost his patience and spoke out after the situation did not improve and family members had difficulty traveling to the area. He said that if everyone kept advancing for photos, videos and live coverage, how were people to provide final rites properly. Some people at the venue intervened and attempted to pacify Chandu, asking the media not to hound a grieving family. Salim Kumar was buried with full state honours. The late actor was paid his last respect by government representatives, including senior district and police officials along with many members of the film fraternity.
